A bill to legalize same-sex marriage won approval...
For the first time in the 5 years I’ve lived here, I’m actually kinda liking Maryland right now.
Today is going to be a good day.
Happy birthday, Gina!
Gaydarless: THIS IS EXTREMELY URGENT →
gaydarless:
Hey everybody, the Maryland House of Delegates is likely to vote on whether to legalize marriage equality as soon as today! Right now we have 70 votes yes and we need 71 to get it passed. Delegate Sam Arora, a Democrat from Mongomery County, is on the fence about his vote. In the past he has said he is in support of same sex marriage but is thinking about voting against the bill. If...

GSA gender-bending day
My students haven’t even done their “cross-dressing day,” as they just planned it last night, and they’re already being bullied for it. One of the club members (who is gay) is very opposed to the idea, saying that he won’t support the members who participate and thinks anyone who dresses as their unassigned gender should expect taunting.
I thought this was a great...

I love my GSA Kids
After annoying the crap out of me at today’s meeting, my students updated their Facebook page and announced that they want to do a social experiment next week involving cross-dressing to 1) Show that they oppose the proposed policy change to ban cross-dressing at some Virginia schools and 2) to show support for their transgender peers.
These kids are awesome. When I think they don’t...

Voting for marriage
Maybe I’m naive, or perhaps I’m just stupid, but I don’t understand why marriage rights are something people have the ability to vote for or against. What gives other people the right to vote on who and how I can love? Why not vote for what kind of clothing I can or can’t wear, too? Oh wait, Virginia is taking care of that.
Point? Stay out of my personal business. ...

Note to self:
If you fall asleep sitting up, you run the risk of your head falling back and smashing into the wall, and that hurts.

My women's studies class is frustrating
I should have taken it at a university, not a community college. Why oh why are there so many ignorant people in the world?
Also… Am I nuts for being slightly peeved that my teacher keeps including “gay rights” and “gay marriage” in discussions about gender equality? She keeps bringing up that “gay marriage” is one of the “biggest gender issues...

high school students receive anti-homosexual... →
This is a school in my district. With things coming to light recently with my own students and bullying they’re experiencing at our school, it terrifies me to think this could happen with my kids.

I just need to stop using public restrooms at...
I’m sick of feeling uncomfortable and watching other women leave to check the sign, then come back in and stare at me. I’m worried for the time the reaction will be more than a dirty glance.

Roommates suck
Why is it necessary to vacuum the house at 8 am? You’re home all the time during the week, yet the 3 times you’ve actually used the vacuum in the 6 months we’ve lived here, it’s at 8 am on weekends.

In D.C. schools, early lessons in gay tolerance
Left Baltimore and it was snowing pretty hard. Get home, no snow, just a light drizzling rain. At least I got to see some snow.
